Haskap and Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Cortland apples, peeled and sliced; Empire or Lobo apples, or a mix of the three, are also great options.
  • 340 g frozen haskaps
  • 1/3 cup golden brown sugar or raw sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or butter
  • 1 crust of your favorite pastry dough
  • Mix the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar together and set aside. Peel and slice the apples. Mix the dry ingredients with the apples and frozen haskaps.

Preparation

  1. Roll out the first crust into a pie plate and add the filling. Form small dots with the coconut oil or butter and place them over the filling. Roll out the second crust and seal the pie.
  2. Bake in an oven preheated to 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°F and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes. To achieve a golden color, whisk a small egg with 1 tbsp of milk and brush the top of the pastry before putting it in the oven.
